Life Lately: A Catch Up

May 1, 2016

Hello, it’s been a while eh? I thought we could have a little catch up  on where I’ve been and what I’ve been up to over the last few months. If you’re only here for the food and have zero interest in my life then consider this fair warning 😉

As some of you may know, I work as an actuarial trainee which means that, alongside work, I have to study for quite a few exams. The exam sessions roll around each April and September and life inevitably gets a bit crazy in the lead up to them.

So, the past few months have been full of studying and not a lot else (adult life is so exciting, right!?). I finished my exams a couple of weeks ago and celebrated the only way I know how: with wine & food! Specifically, the dessert above: banana crème brûlée, peanut butter ice cream & hazelnut brownie at Field Grill House. And yes, it was as good as it looks.

Now that exams are over for a wee while, I’m hoping to get back into blogging. Remember that reader survey I did way back before Christmas? In January I almost wrote a follow up post in which I was going to promise to post more frequently. Lol, that would have been embarrassing…

Anyway, one of the main things to come out of the survey was that people would prefer more consistency and a bit more personality in my posts. I’m not going to make any grand claims about how often I’m going to post (let’s be honest, that’s never gone well in the past!), but I am going to try to share a wider range of posts.

I love developing, cooking and photographing recipe posts but they are super time consuming to put together. So, I’m going to experiment with branching out a little in terms of content.  I’m not sure exactly what that will look like but potentially some non-recipe food posts and more generic lifestyle type ramblings. I’m also desperate to improve my photography so if I manage to take any decent photos I’ll likely share them here.

Oh, and last but not least: some exciting news! I’ve been nominated in the ‘Best Food Blog’ category of the Great British Food Magazine Awards. If you enjoy my recipes & ramblings then your vote would make me so happy! If that’s not incentive enough, you’ll also be automatically entered to win loads of amazing prizes, from cooking classes to bakeware (all worth £5000 in total!).

I didn’t realise you were an actuarial trainee – I’ve been determined to get into actuarial work for years, I graduate this summer so fingers crossed. Hope your exams went well!

Yep, I’ve probably never actually mentioned it on here though! Ah yeah, you’re studying actuarial science right? That’ll give you a few nice exemptions 🙂 good luck with the job hunt!
